Assessing the risks of generative AI in the workplace

Image
Amid the exponential growth of generative AI, there is a pressing need to evaluate the legal, ethical, and security implications of these solutions in the workplace. One of the concerns highlighted by industry experts is often the lack of transparency regarding the data on which many generative AI models are trained. There is insufficient information about the specifics of the training data used for models like GPT-4, which powers applications such as ChatGPT. This lack of clarity extends to the storage of information obtained during interactions with individual users, raising legal and compliance risks. The potential for leakage of sensitive company data or code through interactions with generative AI solutions is of significant concern. “Individual employees might leak sensitive company data or code when interacting with popular generative AI solutions,” says Vaidotas Šedys, Head of Risk Management at  Oxylabs . “While there is no concrete evidence that data submitted to C...

iPhone 15 Pro might get a titanium frame, thinner bezels, and a price hike/Some big changes appear to be in store for the standard iPhone lineup, too.

Image
Some significant changes are expected to come to this year’s iPhone 15 Pro lineup — but they might come alongside a price hike, too.   In  Bloomberg  this morning , reporter Mark Gurman confirmed a handful of details that have been floating around all year about what to expect when the following iPhone lineup is announced in just over a month. The new Pro models will both come with titanium frames, instead of stainless steel, making them stronger and lighter, according to Gurman. Their screens will also have thinner bezels, thanks to new display technology, shrinking the size of the black border by about a third. (Earlier leaks  show what that might look like .) And as previously reported, expect the mute switch to be swapped out for  a customizable button  and  the Lightning port to be replaced by USB-C . That might all come at a price, though. Gurman says he expects a price increase outside the US, and “wouldn’t rule out a price increase ...

OpenAI can’t tell if something was written by AI after all / OpenAI shuts down a tool meant to detect AI-written text due to low accuracy

Image
OpenAI shuttered a tool that was supposed to tell human writing from AI due to a low accuracy rate. In an  (updated) blog , OpenAI said it decided to end its AI classifier as of July 20th. “We are working to incorporate feedback and are currently researching more effective provenance techniques for text,” the company said. As it shuts down the tool to catch AI-generated writing, OpenAI said it plans to “develop and deploy mechanisms that enable users to understand if audio or visual content is AI-generated.” There’s no word yet on what those mechanisms might be, though. OpenAI fully admitted the classifier was never very good at catching AI-generated text and warned that it could spit out false positives, aka human-written text tagged as AI-generated. OpenAI, before it added its update shutting down the tool, said the classifier could get better with more data.  After OpenAI’s ChatGPT burst into the scene and became one of the fastest-growing apps ever, people...
